What is Somatic
Trauma-Informed Integration?
Somatic Trauma-Informed Integration is a compassionate, body-centered approach to healing trauma. Rooted in somatic practices, polyvagal theory, and embodiment, it helps individuals reconnect with their bodies and safely process past experiences stored in the nervous system. This holistic modality focuses on restoring a sense of safety, regulation, and resilience within the body and mind.
The Foundations of Somatic Trauma-Informed Integration
Somatics:
Trauma often lives in the body, manifesting as tension, pain, or disconnection. Through gentle body-awareness techniques, we focus on feeling, releasing, and integrating these sensations. This approach prioritises the body’s wisdom and its capacity to heal.
Polyvagal Theory:
Based on Dr. Stephen Porges’ groundbreaking work, polyvagal theory explores how the nervous system responds to safety and threat. By working with the vagus nerve and cultivating a state of safety and connection, this approach promotes nervous system regulation, shifting from survival states (fight, flight, freeze) to a place of calm and empowerment.
Embodiment:
True healing occurs when we inhabit our bodies fully and feel present in the moment. Through mindfulness, movement, and breathwork, we nurture the ability to live in alignment with your body’s natural rhythms and signals.
